First of all, I’d like to apologize for Mac Soda’s hiatus. Contrary to what you might think, the blog is not dead, I just have been rather busy lately and haven’t had the time to post.

Now that I said that, its time to get to the news. Mac Soda has received word that Final Cut Studio will see another update sometime next year. Features apparently will include Snow Leopard optimization and Native RED support. While this might sound rather similar to our previous (incorrect) Final Cut Studio rumor, its important to note that this comes from a different source.

What features, besides RED support and speed improvements, would you hope to see in the next FCS? Air your thoughts in the comments.

    I hope this is true!

I have been waiting for a rewritten FCP since 2004 so it´s about time.
    Some of my suggestions:
    64 bit, cocoa of course
Motion/Live Types font/text system in FCP. Real OSX font-experience!
    Realtime FX plug, no renders.
Soundtracks audiosystem in FCP timeline. Real audiomixing!!!
    Integrated Cinema Tools. Better metadata!
    RED r3d support natively
New UI, take parts from motion/soundtrack/aperture and i movie.
    3D editing!!!
ColorSync. No more gamma shifts. Be able to calibrate datamonitors/videomonitors with accurate colors thru colorsync.
DPX/Open EXR in timeline without render or extra plugins. Export as well.
    LUT support.
Soundeffects/Music to be searchable in FCP just like in Soundtrack.
Widescreen masking in realtime. Shoot in 16:9 framed to 2,35 and mask to 2,35 in realtime while editing for preview. Would be great!

Also an updated QuickTime X for professionals. J, K, L playbuttons. Real export. Most of the features of QT 7. More PRO.

Just a few of my thoughts.

I’d say Chribbe mentioned the most desired features for most of us that work with final cut professionally.

Did you mention? Final Cut Studio 3 doesn’t exist. It’s just “Final Cut Studio” (see Apple website) as if the name would change in the next version…

Did you mention? The training book (peachpit) about Soundtrack Pro is called “Sound Editing in Final Cut Studio”. As if the app would disappear… or merged into Final Cut?
These are not rumours, but facts!!

    See you in NAB ‘10…
    Phil

  12. what as happen to mike….does he ever talk anymore?

hope fcs4 leaves the qt enviroment…native should mean native support (red raw, arri raw, dpx), GPU accelerated CC Tool with
    fucking nvidia sdi drivers implemented.
native 10 bit RGB render engine
    Mediamangement
    …..
what Cribble listed is definitly super cool…autodesk smoke has it all.

COLOR bug fixes, Gamma, long sequences, GPU accelerated.

FCP needs a big rewrite. I´m shure apple has been working on this for many years. FCP updates since 4.5 have not been much. Just minor features.

Like gringo says, it need to go native in all areas. Shure it might be better using QuickTime but so many other apps can do it natively.

I think FCP will combine alot of FCP, Soundtrack, LiveType, CinemaTools, Color and more in to one app. They might keep them as separate apps but a lot of the technology should go in to the next FCP.

Mike, how about that mega post? If you have any new info, please share….
