Why Steve Really Isn’t Giving the Keynote
January 3, 2009

Maybe not President, but close...
When Apple announced that Steve Jobs wouldn’t be giving the Macworld Keynote, the blogosphere went into a frenzy. Although there was some debate, the common consensus at the end of all the pandemonium was that Steve Jobs was on his way to the grave. My thinking was in that camp for a while, but then as I was watching the news I thought of an interesting possibility… what if Steve Jobs isn’t stepping down due to his illness, but because he wants to take another job? You might say, “Steve would never take any job over Apple… he loves the company! Why would he leave for another company?”, but my answer would be that he’s not leaving for another company, but rather for our government… as Obama’s new Chief Technology Officer.
Before you call me insane, hear me out. Barack Obama needs someone who is ahead of the times, a visionary who could guide our technological decisions in the best way possible. Steve Jobs has proved time and time again that he knows what technology should be like, and that his vision of the future is essentially always correct when it comes to this field. He would be perfect for the position, because frankly, no one is as much of a genius as he is in this regard.
Another fact supporting my claim: Obama has announced every other member of his cabinet except for Chief Technology Advisor. Is this because he hasn’t made up his mind yet? I doubt it. He must have been thinking about this for a long time, considering it was his idea to create this position. A more likely scenario is that his choice, Steve Jobs, doesn’t want him to announce it. I can just picture Steve telling Obama that the only way he will take the job is if he can announce it at Macworld himself. This would explain why the announcement hasn’t been made, and all the others have been. Steve also is a strong democrat, and is really good friends with Al Gore. Perhaps Al Gore, Steve, and Obama himself will all show up at MacWorld to make this announcement, whether it be in person or via iChat. Talk about a one more thing!
Is this rampant speculation? Of course. Is it likely to happen? Probably not. But it definitely is a possibility. And if it does pan out, remember… you heard it here first!
Okay… You’re insane, but you’re right
I like it!
Rampant speculation.
Still, I like it. I’d certainly feel very safe knowing Steve was the CTO.
Kind of hard to imagine Steve getting right up in Senators’ faces, screaming at them, (rightly) calling them idiots and getting away with it.
What a great thought and possibility! I wonder if you’re the first person to propose this. Wouldn’t that be amazing if it’s true? Maybe public schools would have to switch to Apples!
Al Gore has really stepped in it this time. He could have spent the rest of his global warming career collecting money by spreading fear over events that were a century or at least half century in the future. Oh, but that wasn’t good enough for Big Al. He’s now told the biggest global warming whopper of his alarmist career:
AL GORE HAS GUARANTEED THAT THE NORTHERN POLAR ICE CAP WILL BE COMPLETELY GONE IN FIVE YEARS!!!
When I heard this I assumed it was a rumor started by skeptics to make Gore look bad. It wasn’t until I viewed the video that I realized what Gore had done. Gore has started a five year credibility countdown timer ticking and it’s up to all of us to make sure that he is held accountable and proven to be a fraud when his dire prediction aimed at drumming up support doesn’t come close to coming true.
The mainstream media isn’t going to let this video see the light of day because they, unlike Al, understand the precarious position in which he has placed himself.
It is therefore up to us to spread the word about Big Al’s prediction. He must be exposed for the fear mongering opportunist that he has become.

While visiting this site, you might want to watch a preview of the film “Not Evil, Just wrong” or watch “The Great Global Warming Swindle” which is found in the video section. Happy Viewing!!!
Cuz he has cancer he probably doesn’t want to be out in public. One thing I don’t get is how he managed to cover up the facts that 3 years ago it came out that IPods were created in sweatshop factories in Indonesia or was it Cambodia.
They admitted it and somehow everyone forgot – why doesn’t anyone care. The apple community should be outraged still.
Steve Jobs with Obama? What a great idea. Steve is for sure a visionary. All governments should recruit the leader of each sector. The economy would be much better.
Are you kidding? The last time he was invited in to advise he ended up in charge. Somehow I don’t think that that personality/style and Democracy are compatible. It also would be seen as partisan… towards the Mac platform, that is. They are way more Windows voters out there. Uniting Democrats and Republicans is easy by comparison.
This is something that I’ve personally predicted for awhile now. Steve may not necessarily be CTO, but he is heading for government in a big way.
This could be true, I doubt that this will happen but, who knows
All the things I’ve read about the “new” CTO position (there are plenty of CTOs in government, just not a White House appointed one) say that there won’t be a lot of change and nothing radical will happen. While the general talk about a CTO encompasses a huge amount of ground, most likely it will end up being a liaison job between the WH and other CTOs and trying to standardize the way government CTOs do things.
Don’t get your hopes up that SJ will sign up for that…
Steve working for the government? Where he doesn’t get to run the show? Where he has to collaborate with others, and now throw temper tantrums? Not a chance in hell, NFW.
Crazy idea.
I like it.
I can imagine Obama choosing Jobs for this position, but what a bad choice it would be, unless Jobs could embrace the transparency that government needs with the same enthusiasm that he used to make Apple one of the most closed and proprietary tech companies around.
I think Steve leaving for Washington to become CTO would be the only place other than Apple that I’d want him.
Great post!
“One More Thing…”
I am replacing Obama and am the new President for the United States. FTW
Did you know Obama was a Mac user? – It could happen!

Doesn’t anybody screen these calls?
There is no northern polar ice cap. You’re just repeating PR. The Arctic is thin yearly sea ice. Remember Dick Rutan landed there back in 2000:
“… Five stranded travelers, including famed pilot Dick Rutan, were rescued from the North Pole about 12 hours after their Russian-designed biplane landed and then sank through the ice, the Coast Guard said on May 16…”

Obama and Jobs, a perfect match on the innovation front..
epic. I chuckled at the shocker of the theory.
Excellently played by all parties involved, if true, however.

Sorry.
I was still in shock.
@Dash RipRock III
It is a fact now that the ice level of the North Pole is back on the same level as 1979.
