New Apple TV at MacWorld?
December 16, 2008
Mac Soda has received word from an anonymous source that a new Apple TV will appear at MacWorld 09. He didn’t give us much in the way of specifics, but mentioned that Apple is taking the Apple TV “to a whole new level” with a “stunning new enclosure” and that this product will “undoubtably dominate the living room as the iPod dominated music”.
Our trusted source who gave us the nVIDIA scoop has not mentioned anything regarding the Apple TV, so its possible that we may not see any new Apple TV hardware whatsoever, but I pray this guy knows what he’s talking about. I wrote an article for 9 to 5 Mac saying what Apple needs to do for the next Apple TV, so I’ll be very interested to see if Apple applies any of these things. We will keep you posted if we hear any more details.
I am still holding on to hope that Apple will add a CableCARD/Tru2Way DVR to Apple TV, ideally that would allow recorded shows to sync back to iTunes to be saved or synced to iPods/iPhones. I also think DVD playback (either through an integrated drive or streamed from a Mac or PC) would be a welcome feature.
Apple TV is a product I’ve always been interested in, but I feel like it needs something more before I’ll get one.
If this is true, we’re going to see the natural evolution of this product. Instead of a set top box, the Apple TV will be AN ACTUAL TV. I believe all of the parts are in place for this to happen and it would certainly meet the “stunning new enclosure” teaser.
There is no way that is going to be the new mini – its way to far off existing design cues.
There will be a new mini, possibly a new Apple TV, but that’s not what its going to look like.
It would be great if they could merge the Mini with AppleTV.
didn’t happen
Nice post … In fact, it’s the coolest post I read this month and deserve a Facebook share!
