The event today was a good lesson for Mac Soda, in that we learned what sources we can trust and who we cant. We had two “scoops”: the result is below.

nVIDIA in MacBooks:

We completely nailed this one. Mac Soda was the first site to report that this would in fact be the chip Apple chose to use in their upcoming MacBooks. So to all the people who say we have no source: we do.

iLife and iWork Updates:

We completely failed this one. The source turned out to be bogus: after tracking his IP address, it was just a college student who tried to mess with us. He succeeded.

While its a bummer that we messed up the iLife rumor, its encouraging to know that we do have a source we can fully trust in the future. We expect another scoop out of this guy before the next Apple event.

Why did you trust a college kid when you have a “source”

I didn’t know he was a college kid at the time. He had provided me with suitable evidence for me to believe he was legit. I didn’t think that someone would seed false rumors to a blog just for fun, but apparently I was wrong.

I bet the college kid is in his dorm saying “PWNED” right now.

Why no 17″ yet, my guess is that they do not have the equipment in the factory ready to produce (in quantity) three different sizes of cases yet. Once production picks up (and the units start to sell), they’ll add in the 17 as well. Decisions, decisions. Wait for the 17 or settle for the 15.

I have to get into the Apple store and do my comparisons, but I’ve been working on a dweeby 13″ Toshiba tablet for two long. 15″ MacBook Pro would definitely add my screen real-estate, but….for someone who’s lugging it around everyday, is 17″ too big? What’s your big push for a 17 incher? Is it aimed to be your primary machine?

I went all out this spring and got a 24″ iMac with 4GB of RAM, the 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo and the upgraded nVidia graphics. This is my primary machine. That makes me really tempted for a new Air since it’s thin and light and finally will have some decent graphics in it. Decisions, decisions…
