1:42- 5 hour battery life.
1:40- Updated MacBook is the same as MacBook Pro… just smaller.

1:39- ”It is the best selling Mac… ever. We sell a ton of these, and people love the. They sell for $1099, and we’re gonna keep right on selling these, but we’re going to reduce the entry price to $999.” Ooh, so close Steve, but not low enough!

1:35- ”We’re putting the 9400M in the Air, adding a 120GB hard drive, and we’ve got a 128GB SSD as an option — in addition we’re putting in a mini display port.”
1:34- Both are 15.4 inch screens. No 17.
1:33- My new computer…

1:33- 0.95 inches. Thinnest ever. Chunkier than I expected.
1:32- SSD option… no word on size yet.
1:31- Mystery port was just a battery indicator :-/
1:30- No Blu-Ray
1:30- 5 hours vs. 4 hours. Not too shabby!
1:29- Two chips!
“We’ve added a new chip from NVIDIA — the 9600M GT, 32 graphics cores, we’re including both the 9400 as integrated graphics, or choose the 9600M for big graphic performance. 5 hours of batter on the 9400, 4 on the 9600.”

1:18- We called it! Our guy was right! nVIDIA!!!

1:17- Steve’s on stage!
1:17- Seth Weintraub of 9 to 5 Mac nailed it!
1:16-
Instead of starting with a thin piece of aluminum and adding more pieces to the structure, they’re now going to start from one piece of aluminum andremove pieces. This makes the structure stronger and more rigid.
Remove from one solid brick!
1:14-
“For years, we’ve been looking for a better way in building a notebook. We had a really significant breakthrough that culiminated in the manufacture of [the MacBook Air].”
Ah…..
1:14- Current Notebooks are jippy in comparison with new ones.
1:13- These notebooks are gonna be tough!

12:55- 5 Minutes! Engadget’s in their seats…
12:53- Via Seth Weintraub…
Glass trackpads….I think we’ll (Steve and Mac people) need to have a little talk on how the mouse button’s time to die is now and how all of those years of not having two buttons was in preparation…I wonder how he’s going to deal with glossy screens…
I think you’re right!
12:51- Less than 10 minutes left. I’ve been waiting for this for almost 2 years!
12:50- I hope you’re right Bryan. I really hope you’re right.
12:48- Do you think we’ll see any suprises? iTablet? Mid-Size Mac? Brand new Cinema Displays (not just the 24 inch…)?
12:46- ARE YOU PUMPED?!? BECAUSE I AM!!!!!
12:44- Via Macrumors Forums
This is the best misinformed Keynote speculation ever!!
Good job Steve!
Amen to that! I have a feeling that a lot of this is fake… kind of like the false prototypes of the iPhone.
But more likely, its real. 15 minutes, and we’ll all know!
12:39- @ Stephen Again
Absolutely it will be a dock. I can’t see any other possibilty. Why would Apple announce 1 display at their laptop event unless there was some integration?
Answer: They wouldn’t.
However, this is not the brick. The brick is the manufacturing process. The iPods were rainbows, and the MacBooks are bricks. That’s the end of the story. Because they are made from a single brick of aluminum.
12:36- If JG is to be believed, Apple’s stock will tank today. If Apple doesn’t release a budget laptop, their stock will plummet.
12:35- I went to the bathroom, got three water bottles, and a box of Cheese-Its. I’m good to go!
12:30- @ Stephen:
I have a feeling that the 17 incher might be leaving, as sad as it is. Why, you might ask? Because Apple is going to switch to a 16:9 Aspect Ratio. This would mean that the 15 inch, will become a 16 inch, and the 17 inch will become an 18.4 inch. Apple must have decided that was too big and bulky, and came to the conclusion that one, 16 inch model would be much easier for the MacBook Pros than a 15 and a 17.
Where the story seems weird is when John Gruber says that they might keep selling the 17 inch MBP. That would baffle me, and would make Apple’s laptop lineup look more like Dell’s or HP’s than the classic, simplistic lineup we’re used to. I highly doubt this will materialize.
12:26- The rumors this morning and last night are extremely weird. Let’s hope for some surprises (which I’m sure we’ll get). What do you want out of the keynote?
12:25- I’m realizing the next 35 minutes is going to be the longest 35 minutes of my life.
12:24- I just printed my Bingo card
12:20- We just received another email from a Mac Soda reader…
hey there, i did some quick math, it could appear the photo of the new battery had the 17″ MBP in it. please see the attached photo.
I find it very hard to believe that the 17 inch MacBook Pro won’t get updated at all. The way things are going now, if you believe John Gruber, will give us the following at the end of the keynote.
MacBook: The same base model as now (yes, combo drive and jippy plastic), for 999.
MacBook Aluminum: A redesigned MacBook starting at 1299.
MacBook Air: Spec bump announced, available in January.
MacBook Pro 15 inch: Completely redesigned, according to the pics we saw.
MacBook Pro 17 inch: Exactly the same.
In my eyes, this is way too much variance in the laptop line. I was looking for this event to narrow the gap between the notebooks, not further it. If all this is true, I will find it very weird.
12:15- We just received this email from a Mac Soda reader…
That Pics a fakey my freind good job you didnt post it
Ive found two things which are true, my source works in the finance department
now they have heard no news of relasing a macbook at $800, or at any other priceThe Prices for the Laptops will remain the same I repeat will remain the same
We’ll know very shortly whether he’s right or not!
12:10- Welcome to the 1st ever, Mac Soda Live Blog. While, amazingly enough, we weren’t invited to the event, we still are going to comment on it!

Thank you.
great stuff
look at this, i think its the real deal but what i dont understand is WTH are they releasing a new macbook pro in 15″ and not “17 or bigger?, it just dont make sense to do this and have a brand new MBP and then just leave the dated 17 MBP like it is as now???.. im sure they will releasing a 17 MBP and update the whole line, not the air though..
http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/14/new-macbook-pro-to-feature-removable-battery-and-hard-drive-acc/
I believe that all the stores are down at this point, at least that’s what I saw in Apple Danmark.
I just hope that the design will not look like an every day dell pc as it does on the pics from J.R…
doesnt the new photograph look like this (what we’ve seen earlier)?
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/images/macbook-pro-pic-thumb1.jpg
I just typed index.html at bestbuy.com and i can see the store just fine. No new Apple notebooks appear to be up (yet).

*is tettering with excitment!!!!*
Hey All,
That photo that has been circulating featuring the MBP with the new battery cover (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/comments.php?enid=2030#commentsanchor) (its the top picture) looks IDENTICAL to a 17″ MBP. The logo to case size ratio is the same as my 17″ MBP.
I think all this news of the 17″ not be released is pure BS!! Why would apple do that to their line and customers? All these rumor monger sites just got all antsy over not seeing a 17″ shell spy pic from China.
If you were a major world leading company fighting for market share, why oh why would you hinder yourself this way?
Doesn’t make any sense and smells of BS!
Michael,
Thank you for the comment!
That does make sense! Though I’m sure the fanboys would want a pro model in two sizes. One for portability and the other for bigger graphic/video editing on the go. I for one like the much bigger screens.
Also, Could that 24″ rumored screen be a dock for the new MBP, could that be the “BRICK” rumor we have been hearing for the last while?? I think this could be true as the factory rumor never really materialized.
“If JG is to be believed, Apple’s stock will tank today. If Apple doesn’t release a budget laptop, their stock will plummet.”
I agree. It would seem dumb and almost arrogant to price a Macbook, aluminum or not, at $1300. If Apple thinks they can bump the price up and still expect the booming amount of sales, I think they’re mistaken. Sure, people will still buy them but not nearly as much as if it were only a triple digit amount. Even $999 has a slight psychological effect of making it look more affordable, despite being only $100 cheaper than the lowest model currently.
I’m hoping that Jobs got his minions to give higher priced numbers to sources who then leaked it. That way if they announce it at like $899-999 everyone will eat it up! Oh I wish…
Man, oh man, am I ever excited. If a new 17″ is announced, I will be seeing a fedex guy in a few days!
I have my mouse pointer stead-fast on the refresh button!!

It must be something standing upright then… Interesting
Let the games begin…

I hope they will bring out new tablets.

And I Im skrewed cuz i just got a new macbook pro
i hope they will be affordable though
When is the site gonna be ready?
Dude, the new gestures and patents of those you were talking about a day ago – seems to be right!
so getting the pro
Is it dedicated VRAM on the MB?
I want one but the new macbook is $2400 NZD here… thats alot ! I hope Apple NZ would drop the price !
I think that the people that called the author of this blog stupid for claiming a uni-body construction out of laser carving and water-jets. Owe an apology.
The new products are amazing and top of the line, both aesthetically and technologically. Apple has made a new leap forward, once more, and I expect that to be completed by the refinement of Mac OS X with Snow Leopard.
Unfortunately, the bad thing for me is that I bought a MacBook Pro recently, so I can’t afford to buy one yet. The ones that still think about this, don’t.
New Apple MacBook Lacks Firewire — Cuts Off Millions Of Potential Buyers
Apple’s new MacBooks are of no use to the millions – or tens of millions – of potential buyers who own DV video cameras that use FireWire to transfer video from the camera to the computer for editing. The MacBooks are equipped with USB2, but no firewire.
I just got off the phone with the people at 1-800-MY APPLE who confirmed that there is no way they are aware of to use any firewire-based video camera with the new MacBooks.
Apple advised that buyers would have to use a video camera that uses USB to transfer video to the computer – and that excludes about 99% of all video cameras out there.
I was advised to check the Apple online store for such video cameras, but found only Canon firewire-based models for sale!
Even the new Sony, Canon etc High Definition video cameras use Firewire only to transfer video to the computer.
Unless there is something I’m missing, it means that my daughter will not be purchasing a new MacBook, nor will anyone she knows because they are all into making videos.
What do I do for a living? Marketing – and I’m filming and editing videos almost every day. All ten video cameras at my work are firewire based – right from my old reliable Sony PD150 to our new little Canon HV30 HiDef cameras (We bought three)
How big a deal is this?
Once again, unless I’m missing something, there is no way that anyone who owns a firewire video camera will purchase a MacBook.
How could Apple have made a mistake like this? Tell me I’m missing something here, please!
