MacBook Pro Leaked Picture
October 8, 2008
Stop the presses. Engadget has uncovered a leaked picture of the new MacBook Pro from the forums of MacRumors. If this is real, which I think it is, we can see that it is made from a solid brick of aluminum as 9 to 5 Mac reported, it will have a clicklet keyboard, and more importantly, that it is extremely thin! Judging by the distance between the headphone jack and the top and bottom of the laptop, it appears that the laptop is at least half as thin as the current model. Also notable is that it appears there are two Firewire 800 ports, and no Firewire 400 ports, which, if true, would be devastating for me.
Now that we see the picture, the question arises: how much longer until the product is announced? We didn’t get an invite yesterday as I had anticipated, which eliminates the opportunity for an October 14th launch, the 21st is already reserved for the conference call, meaning there is no shot of seeing the laptops then, and its unlikely we will see an invite come out that day as well, meaning October is not looking like the month the laptops will be announced. I think we all should bank on a November launch: and if not then, I guess we’ll all have to wait until MacWorld.
UPDATE: Many of the commenters are suggesting Apple will release the laptops without an event. While nothing isn’t possible at this point, I am very doubtful Apple would do this. If an SDK, a new iPod, and a new iMac qualifies for an event, I think a complete redesign of Apple’s best selling computers is worthy.
Oh no till Macworld….
please….
it is very thin…
But who told you that Apple won’t release this on the 14th without an event?
how exactly do you determine this is a single piece of carved out aluminum? stop including your own personal fanboy assumptions just because it coincides with another popular unproven rumor.
I still say that it will be a silent release, if anything. On October 14th. Why have a huge event for cosmetic changes? Seems like a waste to me, I’ll have the Apple home page refreshing constantly on the 14th.
Hey where did you hell learned to rumor-blog?
As you can see there’s no incredible changes there. I think it’s going to be released quietly to the Apple Store next tuesday. Or at least it’s not a stupid hypothesis. C’mon, Apple never held a Laptop only Event
I think we were totally misguided by Gruber’s 14th October thing. He never mentioned an Event, he just said that “Those of you holding out for a new lineup of MacBooks will have to wait until October 14, according to sources who, as they say, are familiar with Apple’s hardware plans.”
jessica and cyryll, that’s what i said in my previous posts! +1 to you all
I hope for a classic “store down” in 6 days…
+10 to you, Darren, for being one of the earlier ones. I can’t believe I didn’t think about it before, but it really doesn’t make sense to hold an event just for some basically cosmetic changes…
Now, if it were the rumored trackpad with the screen or whatever, I could see that having an event, as some of the new features would need to be explained, but I feel like that rumor was crushed awhile ago. Maybe for MacWorld… who knows? All I know is that this needs to come soon, I sold my almost new MacBook in hopes of going Pro, I would hate to buy one and then have an updated one come out a week afterwards. Let’s go, Apple! We’re getting antsy!
wa are getting thin!
I do not eat anymore…!!!
To Darren, Jessica, Cyrill…
I would be astonished if Apple didn’t hold a media event for this. This is a huge refresh of their biggest selling computer, and it would be amazing if they didn’t have an event. The iMac had an event, along with iLife and iWork… so perhaps the event with the laptops will bring us iLife 09 and iWork 09? Who knows… all I know is that there is a slim chance Apple won’t hold a media event.
“Clicklet” keys…? It’s sort of hard to be a rumors site if you don’t have any sources and you have no idea what you’re talking about.

well you have been wrong before…maybe you should stop making predictions as your track record is terrible.
With all due respect, I agree with Dave. No one really knows what’s going to happen, even some of the most credible rumors sites still don’t know exactly what’s going on. But not a whole lot of them are banking their entire credibility on something they feel should or should not happen.
All in speculation, and I still stand beside the thought that perhaps this won’t require anything huge, but the bigger stuff (i.e.-newer software) will be saved until MacWorld. Just a guess. If not October 14th, then also not October 21st. October 28th, then? November? Not until MacWorld? I still have a hard time grasping that if Apple has anything at all, they’re going to continue to hang on to it. If they want to keep in the game, it’s going to have to be soon. It’s either next week or we’re in for a longer and more frustrating waiting game.
But then again, what do I know? Could be wrong. Hope not, we’ll see.

I would really love it, if Apple held an event on October 14th, but my question is; if Apple presents new Macbooks this fall, what could they possibly be doing for the WWDC this January???
maybe it would be all about the new os: “snow leopard”
Why should 2 faster Firewire ports be devastating to you? You can plug in all your old Firewire stuff with an adapter that will probably be included. I’ve already got a couple of them from a PowerMac G5.
Looks like it’s a compromise of both… There IS an event and it IS on the 14th!
