Today is October 7th: the day Apple is going to invite the media to the brick event. Post what you guys think Apple will write on the invite in the comments… I’ll post whoever gets the closest with the actual invite once its released.

UPDATE: My speculation was wrong… no invite, which probably means no event. Unless Apple releases it later tonight or tomorrow, we’re all gonna have to wait.

    Hi, Mac Soda team!

Are nyou SURE that the invites ARE going out today? I hope so, because I am already waiting way too long for a macbook.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I’m reading the blog for a weeks now, and i am in the same state of mind of MacUser. I extremly hope a special event on october 14th but Apple do make its events rarely…

To respond, even if I don’t work in the adds, it would be a thing like this:

Let’s brick! or There is Alu in the air…

Pretty bold of you folks to lay this all out, putting your credibility on the line and seemingly inciting Apple to defy you by making the announcement tomorrow …or Thursday even. If the announcement is made today, big fat props to you folks!

That being said, that song from the Commodores, “She’s a Brick House”, will be used in some fashion at the event. It will be referring to the new manufacturing plant that will house the process of conforming bricks of aluminum into the next generation of high-tech Mac laptops.

…those are my ‘glaring-into-the-clouds’ thoughts of the morning. : )

  9. Nice one! That song would work perfectly for the event.

oh how I wish the naysayers were wrong – but it looks like there will be no invites today. That could posibly translate to no event on 10/14 but who knows. I want to buy a MBP so badly but the key word here is “want”. Since I don’t “need” one I can wait another week or 2 or even until Macworld 2009 if necessary. I’d rather NOT wait that long but…whatever. I keep in mind that Apple is a corporation and they have to do what they feel is best for business…not what’s best for MrHarris. So if they make me wait then I guess i have to wait.

Based on Apple’s history, do they announce the invitation 1 week in advance of an event? I don’t recall how far in advance the invitation went out for the iPod’s “Let’s Rock” event. Was that a week in advance?

My train of thought is that maybe it still is going to be on the 14th and the invitation will be announced at some point this week.

  55. To everyone that is freaking out: I made a mistake. I’m sorry. If I had believed it to be false, I would not have posted it. I apologize to those whose hopes I got up by posting this article: I’m even more let down than you are.

  56. RRRize said

So, I just checked and answered my own question. For the iPod’s “Let’s Rock” even, we did get a confirmed and official announcement exactly 1 week in advance. The event was held on Tuesday, Sept 9th and the announcement was confirmed on MacRumors on Tuesday, Sept 2:

Guys, don’t be so critical and harsh. This is, after all, a rumor site. You cannot be too annoyed at the author of the site because he took a chance based on established voices in the rumor community, like MacRumors, John Gruber, etc. I guess at this point many of us are just anxiously emotional over this MacBook/MacBook Pro release, so it’s easy to fly off the handle when someone says something about the release date and it does not materialize. But before getting too annoyed at someone, just take some pause and appreciate that we are all speculating in these rumor forums and therefore, we MUST leave PLENTY of room for error.

  63. Darren said

Micheal, I know you did a terrible, and somewhat unforgettable (not unforgivable) mistake but don’t let these negative posters let you down. Let this be a lesson to you for your career in excellent rumor (or things you’ve heard from apple insiders) posting!

  64. james bond said

  67. Aaron said

let me be clear I was never in any way saying anything negative to Michael, I was simply stating what i knew and that was the facts, that there was not going to be an invite today and that there is not going to be an event on the 14th but in the weeks to come, and the other sites never mentioned the invite. So as darren said in the comments, let this be a lesson, even though this is a rumor site, double and triple check your story before posting.

  68. Matt said

Yea guys. I’m not mad at Micheal or MacSoda at all. I don’t read the site as if it were the Apple website. It is a rumor site and Micheal attempted to give us some info that he honestly believed was true. I don’t necessarily read this site to get the most accurate information available, I read it because I like to and because it fills time gaps in between my classes. I am very dissappointed, not with micheal, but with the simple fact that these MacBook (pros) are taking so long to be released. Micheal thought he had the date nailed, he probably (not even 100% sure yet) made a mistake, and we move on and hope that the next date we hear about will be right. C’mon, we all make mistakes.

  69. Darren said

+1000 to Matt! I won’t be removing MacSoda from my bookmarks, nor from my iPod’s RSS list! So I suggest Michael to continue posting info and rumors about Macs!

  70. Matt said

And after that. I still say like I said earlier. The new laptops will be announced one week after the 14th (the 21st), but they will not be released until the friday after (oct. 24th). Apple will be sending out invitations on the 14th to the 21st event. Say what you have to say, but come october 21st, I will be back on this post and I will say…I told you so.

  71. sigh said

why the hell would you still come here? he says absolutely flat out that x will happen based on sources. x does not happen. why would you ever listen to him again? it’s just a waste of your time — you could just use a magic 8 ball or just make up an answer yourself.

  72. Nicklas DK said

    I totally agree with Matt!
Everyboby make mistakes. I’m not dissapointed with the fact that the new macs are taking so long to be released, ‘cus I know it’s because Apple wouldn’t sent something half-done on the market.

But PLEASE could somebody freeze me down and dry me up again when the macbooks are released, ‘cus I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!

  73. Nicklas DK said

    Matt, what are your sources???

  74. Darren said

I don’t agree with Matt with his sourceless, speculative information. I still think that the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros will be released on the 14th, silently, with no event. Apple never did a laptop-only oriented event. Never! Why would Apple do a laptop-oriented event now?

  75. Coglionichenonsietealtro said

  76. RRRize said

The reason Apple would stage an event for the new MacBook and MacBook Pro is because they are going to get a make-over and have all-new features, including this rumored glass trackpad with all new gestures, among other all-new goodies. Having an event for the new MacBook series gives them the forum to demonstrate the new functionality so that we know what we’re getting and what can be done with this new glass trackpad. I cannot tell you how many people I meet who have the PowerBook G4 and I teach them for the first time that they can scroll just by putting 2 fingers on the trackpad and swiping up and down and back and forth. I imagine this new MacBook revision will have enough new features that Apple will want to demonstrate them for us before they sell it. This also allows the media to yip-yap about it in their various newspapers, magazines, websites, podcasts and tv shows.

  77. This really isn’t going to help build up MacSoda’s Reputation!!!

For all of those who are so angry at MacSoda’s author, please realize that this is not the first time, nor will it be the last time that a RUMOR site was not spot on. The author based his speculation on RUMORS that came from fairly credible sources. We all believed that this special event was going to take place on October 14th. Apple seems to always give us and media 1 weeks notice of special events. Is it not reasonable that the author speculated that the invites for the event would be announced today? It is reasonable!

NOW, this final comment/question is directed to all the people who say they are going to abandon MacSoda because the author was wrong today: IF THE SPECIAL “BRICK” EVENT DOES NOT MATERIALIZE NEXT WEEK TUESDAY (OCTOBER 14TH) ARE YOU GOING TO ABANDON MACRUMORS, APPLEINSIDER AND 9TO5MAC? Of course you’re not going to abandon them, because you realize that they are RUMOR sites – and RUMORS are NOT FACT until they materialize. So just chill out. It’s not that serious.

I’d just like to point out the difference between “your” and “you’re.” “You’re” is a contraction, meaning “you are.” “Your” is a possessive, meaning “belonging to you.” Also, there is a difference between “its” and “it’s.” “It’s” is a contraction meaning “it is,” and “its” is possessive meaning “belonging to it.”

Thank you and have a good day.

Thought this was interesting, to those who are saying that the announcement won’t happen on the 14th, but rather the 21st. Apple NEVER did a laptop-ONLY oriented event, not even when they switched to Intel. Not even when they released the iBook, as it was WWDC 1999. Why would they do such event now? For new features, that’s why Apple has their site with info on their products, and that’s why there is an instruction manual with Apple products.

Perhaps you’re right Darren. What you’ve said is certainly not incorrect from a historical standpoint. I guess we will see what happens this time around.

I agree, there is not reliable precedence for a Mac-only showcase. What is also interesting about the rumored unveiling is that it would likely occur at the more intimate setting of 1 Infinite Loop. The only recent precedence for that is the Apple SDK unveiling, which occurred March 6, a Thursday, and announced a week and a day prior to the event.

Maybe Tuesday might be a cheap day to get the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, but that conference room in Cupertino is only open on Thursdays? Total speculation here.

Hopefully someone will come forward to support or refute the Oct. 14 date. I mean, I’d love to know either way.
