Clarification: $400-600 Price Drop

October 5, 2008

I’ve been getting a lot of flack lately both through emails, comments, and forum posts regarding my prediction that the MacBooks will drop 400-600 dollars in price. It turns out I misinterpreted what my source told me.

I was told that the MacBooks will drop 400-600 dollars in price due to the revolutionary manufacturing technology that 9 to 5 Mac reported in detail. Unfortunately, I interpreted this to mean they will drop 400-600 dollars for the revision due next week, when in actuality, we won’t see this major price drop all at once, but scattered throughout the next couple of years. While it is likely the MacBooks will drop 100-300 dollars in price at the event, it is very unlikely that we will see the full price drop that Apple has planned for the new MacBooks. all at once.

Sorry for all the confusion…

A 400-600$ price drop sounds ridiculous. There’s no way, that the Macbooks will drop 50% in price at once.

With the value of the dolar as it is, the price drop wont matter much. ;)

I have been very impressed by this site. To me its been far ahead of all other mac rumor sites. I look forward to these price drops.

Even so the initial price cut is very positive. With the savings, we can buy some software or peripherals, or a new “chair” to use the new Mac more comfortably.

Congratulations to Apple and the folks of Macsoda and 9to5.

I’d say it’s more likely that the price cuts will be seen by a price remaining static despite rising inflation.
