Pandora, Meet iTunes!

September 4, 2008

Hot off the press, from the guy who brought you the 4G Nano scoop (Kevin Rose), comes a rumor regarding iTunes, which should jump to version 8 (like I predicted earlier)

“iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don’t already have.

With iTunes 8, browse your artists and albums visually with the new Grid view; download your favorite TV shows in HD quality from the iTunes Store; sync your media with iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (2nd generation), and iPod touch (2nd generation); and enjoy a stunning new music visualizer”.

This Pandora-like music organization tool is exactly what I was looking for in this version. A simple, seamless way to bring like music together automatically, with advanced “Just for you” selections on the sidebar. Genius indeed!

As for the HD TV shows, if they cost a cent more than they already do, this addition wont matter to me. For some it will, but not for me, and I’m about as big of an HD nut as you can be. I already feel iTunes TV shows cost way too much as it is… they should be 99 cents (or free, and ad-supported).

Grid view sounds very appealing to me as well… I am dying for an addition to the visual UI!

What would you like to see in iTunes 8? Let us know in the comments!

    - They should make full screen cover flow just like on the iPhone/iPod Touch as it is now it’s not very useful.

    @David

    That’s already in use, you can activate it by hitting command+F while in coverflow view.

    I want an option that gives me a view of my iPhone’s “spaces” so that I may arrange all of the apps in iTunes and not struggle with them in the iPhone. Also, maybe they can STAY IN THEIR PLACE once you update an application?

    Not really! What I mean is when you are in command+f mode, it would be great if it was possible to flip the album art just as the mobile version, so it would be possible to see all the tracks on a given album.

  5. We really liked your blog and this info on the ad-supported model…we believe in it enough to have just pushed out BETA 2 of our site!
